A Pond in a Nutshell
We dug this pond in the sand of an old hanging delta so we had to temporarily sore up te sides while we dug and lined it, to prevent it from slumping. The the shore is a soft border which will be maintained with small stones and water planrts such as marsh marragold , blue flag, and water cress. This pond is four feet deep, to moderate the temperatures for the sake of fish: native fathead minnows, and a sunfish to keep them in check. Gold fish and Koi are easy marks for racoons around here, even if you have a gurad dog.
Deer came into the yard and watched us dig. The pond was made to be the shape of Affrica: a watery Africa where the Nile flowed in at the mouth. The sound of the waterfall and the aqueduct brought frogs to the pond before we left.
